Pilates is a physical fitness system that was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Pilates was formed by Joseph during the First World War with the intention to improve the rehabilitation programme for casualties. Over the years, Pilates has been developed to suit various needs. Pilates is widely practice for toning and conditioning. In clinical setting, Pilates rehabilitation aims to build strength, flexibility and lean muscle tone. It helps in improving postural awareness and is especially well indicated for the alleviation and prevention of back pain, neck pain. Pilates also helps to improve other muscular skeletal conditions, and widely practise in pre-natal and post-natal rehabilitation.
